EBC Trek – Day 2 of 14 – Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding

15 October 2017

Landed safely in Lukla and arrived in Phakding (pronounced packding) after a 4 hour trek.

The flight to Lukla was fun.  The views of the Himalayas as we were flying above the clouds surreal.

Some facts about today’s trek:

  • Distance: 7.5 km
  • Average Time: 3 to 4 hrs
  • Starting elevation: 9,100 ft / 2,800 m
  • Ending elevation: 8,563 ft / 2,610 m
  • Starting oxygen: 72% of sea level
  • Ending oxygen: 74% of sea level

This was an easy trek.  We went mostly down in elevation during the first half then mostly up in elevation during the second half.

We followed the Dudh Kosi, the river that flows down from the Himalayas….

crossing hanging bridges along the way…..

….and enjoyed more sights of the Himalayas.

Our trekking day was finished by 1230.
The group and I are enjoying the reassuring warmth of the sun and chat about the vagaries of life.

We enjoy now as we know that tomorrow’s hike to Namche Bazaar will be a very challenging one.
