EBC Trek – Day 3 of 14 – Phakding to Namche Bazaar

16 October 2017.

Arrived safely in Namche Bazaar.

I really enjoy the company of my fellow trekkers…. a great bunch with same motivation.

Here’s one of our two guides.  His name is Sanjaya Lama.  He is single.  22 years old… and we’re trying to find him a wife.

Some facts about today’s hike:

  • 7.4 km
  • Average Time: 6hrs
  • Starting elevation: 8,563 ft / 2,610 m
  • Ending elevation: 11,290 ft / 3,440 m
  • Starting oxygen: 74% of sea level
  • Ending oxygen: 67% of sea level

The first half of the hike was moderate as we continued along the Dudh Kosi river.

Mothers all around the world carry their children. Here it’s a bit more strenuous given the terrain.

I think I must have come across the youngest load carrying Sherpa in the world…

The latter half of the hike from Phakding to Namche Bazaar was a very difficult one….. steep climbs with lots of switchbacks.

This is after we crossed that bridge that the hike became very hard.

As we went up, We all welcomed taking breaks to give right of way to the yaks and donkeys.

Unfortunately I was not able to capture better closeups of Everest today as it was covered  with clouds.
Tomorrow is an accliimatization day.  We will hike in the villages around here and come back down to Namche Bazaar before we carry on again towards Everest Base Camp.  This is to allow our bodies to adjust to the lack of oxygen.

Let’s cross our fingers about closeups of Everest.

Marc
